In businesses it's a common and bad practice for IT administrators to share accounts. The practice lowers the number of high privilege accounts in a company but by doing so removes the ability of proper accountability, tracking and control. Over the years the government ISC-CERT team as been putting organizational account practices higher on the risk lists.
• Lack of accountability and traceability for user actions if an account is compromised
• Increased difficulty in securing accounts as personnel leave the organization, especially sensitive for users with administrator access
